New York passed a bill amending the state’s power of attorney requirements. Under the bill, the principal’s signature on a power of attorney must be witnessed by 2 persons who are not named in the power of attorney as agents or as permissible recipients of gifts. The person who acknowledges the principal’s signature may be one of the witnesses. The bill becomes effective June 13, 2021.
