Alabama Permits Biweekly or Semi-monthly Mortgage Payments Without Penalty

Alabama passed a bill requiring mortgage servicers to allow borrowers, without penalty, to make biweekly or semi-monthly mortgage payments and additional payments to the mortgage principal. The provision does not apply to open-end mortgages, home equity products, or mortgage servicers that already offer penalty-free biweekly or semi-monthly payment options. The bill becomes effective October 1, 2026.
