Fannie Mae Updated Termination of Conventional Mortgage Insurance Requirements

Fannie Mae issued Lender Letter LL-2026-07, updating termination of conventional mortgage insurance requirements. Per the Lender Letter, Fannie is permitting servicers to proactively solicit borrowers whose mortgage loans may be close to or have reached loan-to-value (LTV) requirements for mortgage insurance (MI) termination based on current value of the property and notify the borrower of the actions required to terminate MI as listed in Borrower-Initiated Termination of Conventional Mortgage Insurance Based on Current Value of the Property in Servicing Guide B-8.1-04 (Termination of Conventional Mortgage Insurance). The revision is effective September 16, 2026.
