Fannie Mae issued Lender Letter LL-2026-06 and Freddie Mac issued Guide Bulletin 2026-H, expanding VantageScore 4.0 to all lenders. Per the Lender Letter and Guide Bulletin, all lenders may begin originating and delivering eligible loans using VantageScore 4.0 without prior written approval. Lenders may continue to use Classic FICO Credit Scores or now use VantageScore 4.0 in accordance with the following requirements:
- Credit score versions of VantageScore 4.0 are eligible for delivery to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac only using:
- Equifax VantageScore 4.0;
- Experian VantageScore 4.0; and
- TransUnion VantageScore 4.0
- Lenders may choose either Classic FICO or VantageScore 4.0 for an eligible mortgage; however, the same credit score model must be used for all borrowers on the mortgage; and
- Lenders may not combine Classic FICO and VantageScore 4.0 credit scores among borrowers on the same mortgage.
This Lender Letter and Guide Bulletin is effective September 9, 2026.
